Geranium subcaulescens

A white form |
This white form of Geranium subcaulescens was found in the Peloponnese, Greece. Pale pink variations, mostly with deeper pink centres were found on a number of occasions. However this albino was one of a kind, growing at around 2000 metres. If only the centre was black it would be an amazing new garden plant.

G. subcaulescens wild in the Northern Peloponnese - part 1 |

Normal and albino forms of Geranium subcaulescens growing alongside in a grassy meadow at around 2000 metres altitude

A limestone outcrop in the Northern Peloponnese at the end of June. In this area Geranium subcaulescens inhabited pockets in limestone cliffs through to scree and grassy meadow. The species seems to grow almost anywhere as long as its' altitude requirement is met.

| Two photos show typical habitat. The route of a snow melt stream is well populated with Geranium, although dried up in June the ground is still wet. Outcrops of limestone and even steep scree conditions are homes to this species. |
